Cycles of Life Walk: March

This Cycles of Life Series will meet monthly, Sunday mornings, at the Broadmoor Massachusetts Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary in Natick, Ma.

Walking the same land and practicing in familiar sit spots offers the opportunity to become intimately attuned to how a particular environment changes with the cycles of seasons. We will experience the shifts in light and shadow, the migration of birds and the life spans of insects, plant life. We may be curious to notice the responsiveness of our own inner landscape to that through which we traverse and rest.

Each month we will begin our walk at the Sanctuary Center and follow the path along the pond, continue through forest, meadow and even riverside. Though the intention to follow the sam route monthly, we will adapt according to the wetaher and conditions of the trails.

*If it has rained or snowed and it is likely that ice or snow is covering the ground, please bring micro spikes for your boots.

Thursdays at the MFA: Witnessing Humanity: The Art of John Wilson

“Born in Roxbury, Massachusett, John Wilson (1922-2015)is one of Boston’s most esteemed artists. His work, spanning 60 years, continues to resonate with the persistent realities of disenfranchisement, racial prejudice, and social injustice. His work challenges both biases and omissions, celebrates humanity and deplores heinous the impact of systemic prejudice and racism.

We will gather before entering the gallery to cultivate humility and ground ourselves through a practice designed to support the attunement between mind, body and spirit. After time in the gallery we will reconvene for reflections and a compassion practice.

THREE THURSDAYS @ THE MFA

For each of three Thursday evenings this February we will visit an MFA special exhibit that, at a time when so many things seem uncertain, uncontrollable and even unreal, offer us historical perspective through images that illustrate the dialectical nature of life and offer us the possibility of transforming unimaginable hardship into expressions of love, liberation, and beauty.

Together, we’ll settle into mindful practices that support the holding of grief and joy, struggle and triumph, as equal parts of the whole. This is an invitation to reconnect with interdependence and belonging, and to celebrate the power of community and art to uplift and unite us all. Each week these gatherings will include both sitting and walking practices.

Power of the People: Art & Democracy

Thursday February 6, 2025

“This exhibit highlights the ways in which art has expressed ideas about democracy throughout history and how artists have asked citizens to contemplate democracy’s promise, participate in its practice and call for improvements.”

Sunset Meditative Walk in Honor of World AIDS Day

Join us for a Sunset Contemplative Meditation and Walk in honor of World AIDS Day. This event will be one of many offered by SPOKE ART, Inc as part of a 24 hr vigil at the Boston Center for the Arts to raise awareness and end HIV stigma.

Come early and  view the National AIDS Memorial Quilt and participate in one of the hourly activities that offer opportunities for reflection, remembrance, expressions of hope, love and solidarity.

At 3:30 we will gather for a  brief talk and meditation on themes of transience, beauty, the interplay of light and shadow and  the cyclical nature of life. We will create space to notice whatever is arising for you in the moment, to take time to be present for yourself and your feelings, to turn towards them rather than away. Peace, steadiness, perseverance, or strength may be waiting right there, beneath all that feels to be just the opposite.

At 4 pm we will begin our 30-45 minute walk as the sun is setting over the city. You will be invited to open to the fleeting beauty and ethereal quality of the celestial spectacle unfolding at dusk.

A Sensory Exploration of Elm Bank Reservation

As we walk along the Charles River’s Elm Bank we will explore our own human sensory systems and how they influence our perceptions, while also attuning to the animal world around us and how each of its species may perceive us as we enter into its environment. To do so we will use the concept of Umwelt, the perceptual world view unique to each species. What would it be like to be a tick, attuning to body heat , touch of hair or the odor emanating from skin or a robin responding to the pull of the magnetic field or a spider sensing the vibrations in its web for survival?
Be prepared to walk, crawl, lie down and feel the warmth of the earth, the coolness of the water and the sweet sounds and scents wafting in the air around you.
